QSL COPE Madrid 92.0 MHz

On 92.0 MHz I heard COPE Madrid, Spain. Actually it was COPE Mas Madrid via a 2 kW relay transmitter in Villalbilla, 25 kms east of Madrid:

the Villalbilla / Monte El Viso relay station

According to FM list I heard a COPE Más Madrid broadcast, but I heard an annoucement of both COPE Madrid and COPE Más (with the frequencies 106.3 and 94.8 for the Madrid transmitters):

COPE Madrid is Madrid’s leading generalist channel, with a broad focus on news, sports, and current affairs, strongly oriented towards the local community and sports enthusiasts.

COPE Más is a supplementary channel that places more emphasis on entertainment, lifestyle and cultural topics, often with a local and accessible approach.

QSL COPE Andalucía 87.6 MHz

During a nice opening towards Spain on July 1st one of the stations I picked up was COPE Andalucía. I did hear the regional COPE Andalucía ID, but not the more local Cordoba or Granada ID. And as the two 1 kW transmitters are only 100 kilometers apart it is difficult to say which location I received. Cordoba might be a bit more likely given the other stations I heard, but not by much.

QSL COPE Jaén 1143 kHz

The main networks like RNE, SER, Onda Cero and COPE still have local stations which provide a nice DX target. The biggest problem is to hear the local ID. A good opportunity for COPE stations is around 21:57 h UTC (22:57 h local time in Spain). In the late evening hours they broadcast the network program “La Linterna”, but at this time it is interrupted by a local ID followed by local commercials.

I heard COPE Jaén on 1143 kHz. This frequency is shared with COPE Ourense. The two stations often mix, making it a bit more difficult with my limited knowledge of the Spanish language. But this time I heard COPE Jaén only. Mr. Simon from the Engineering department Andalucia Sureste was so kind to confirm my report.

QSL COPE Málaga 89.8 MHz

A QSL for my reception of COPE Málaga on 89.8 MHz. I heard them during a Sporadic E opening on June 24th. The transmitter is located south west of Málaga and has a power of 5 kW.
Again Artur from Maresme DX was a great help in making the connect with Javier Campos from the technical department at COPE Málaga.

QSL CADENA 100, Murcia 89.7 MHz

A QSL from CADENA 100. I heard them during the June 24th opening to Spain. The 8 kW transmitter is located in Murcia. I sent my report to cadena100@cadena100.es.

CADENA 100 is a nationwide network owned by COPE. It broadcasts adult contemporary music. I heard a quiz and the “Black Eyed Peas”. In 2023 it was the 2nd most listened to music radio station in Spain.

QSL COPE Valencia on 1296 kHz

In less than one hour after sending my report I received a QSL COPE Valencia on 1296 kHz. My reception was confirmed with a QSL by Carlos Corral from the local technical department who also confirmed my report for COPE Murcia. Thank you Carlos!

COPE is an acronym for Cadena de Ondas Populares Españolas. This nation wide network is established by the Spanish Episcopal Conference – the catholic bishops in Spain – with the intent to bring religious programs. Since 1980 the network evolved to a more generalist radio. They still bring religious programs though, and the church has a prominent spot on the COPE website.

QSL COPE Murcia on 711 kHz

On Wednesday evening 21:28 UTC I received a local program from COPE Murcia on 711 kHz. Murcia is the name of a city and corresponding region in Spain. Carlos Corral from the Technical Department was so kind to confirm my reception with a nice email. Thank you Carlos!
