QSL Radio Vorarlberg (ORF) 98. 2 MHz

Not to be confused with Antenne Vorarlberg, Radio Vorarlberg is the regional station of the ORF, the national public broadcaster of Austria. I heard Radio Vorarlberg while staying in Altenstadt near Ulm (Germany). 98.2 MHz is the main transmitter with 50 kW from Bregenz. Other frequencies (with the exception of the 4 kW transmitter at Bludenz) are mostly relays with less than 100 Watts of power.

There is a webform on the site to contact the Vorarlberg station as well as other regional stations. But as I wanted to include a picture I sent my report to kundendienst(at)orf.at which got forwarded to the Vorarlberg team. From them I learned you could als use this address: publikum.vorarlberg(at)orf.at

I received Antenne Vorarlberg while staying in Altenstadt near Ulm, Germany. With a distance of 77 kilometers that is apparently just within the coverage area of the powerful 50 kW Antenne Vorarlberg transmitter located near Bregenz in Austria. This is their main transmitter, the other 7 ones are mere repeaters.

I listened to “Party-Mix mit Enrico Ostendorf”. Nicole was so kind to confirm my report sent to service(at)antennevorarlberg.at .

My reception location Altenstadt was exactly on the border of the coverage area

QSL Radio Ö1 Moosbrunn 6155 kHz

I received a fully detailed email to QSL Radio Ö1 Moosbrunn received on 6155 kHz. I sent my report to oe1.service@orf.at .

Radio Österreich International, also known as “Austria Calling” among English listeners, discontinued operations in 2003. Shortwave operations continued as Radio Ö1 International, but got reduced in coverage and quality. In 2010 there was only a 75 minute program on 6155 kHz left.

From March 2022 onwards, in response to the war in the Ukraine, it was decided to increase the number of broadcasts again. With 300 kW there are now morning, afternoon and evening programs on 6155, 13730 and 5940 respectively.

QSL NDB GRZ-290 Graz

Austro Control sent a nice fullly detailed QSL. I got my QSL NDB GRZ-290 via info@austrocontrol.at . The beacon was located on Graz Airport in Austria.

And yes: “was located”. Because this is another NDB that can’t be heard anymore. More and more of them are taken out of service, as they are deemed obsolete as modern VOR and GPS systems are now available to support navigation.

NDB GRZ was taken off the air on September 7th, 2023. Fortunately I still had a Pskov recording from its final month of operation. I guess I better hurry to get my other Austrian NDBs QSLed.

QSL 100 kW Marathon Moosbrunn 6070 kHz

Several program providers were very active during the Christmas season. I already reported on RNEI and friends, active on 5940 kHz, but hampered by Radio Piepzender…. The 100 kW Marathon organized by SM Radio Dessau was more succesful. Good reception without interference. While I listened to Dessau and DARC I provided details on the other stations… which cost me browny points 😜. I promise to do better next year mr. Max Berger from SM Radio Dessau!
